About Us

Summary

The Kyoto Project aims to collect the impressions of visitors to Kyoto in order to help make it a better city for tourists.

Background

Kyoto is the second most visited destination in the world next to Mecca with nearly 50 million nights stayed yearly. However, most of the tourism is domestic therefore local merchants and government have become complacent and sometimes a little arrogant. Establishments have let themselves become run down because they know that the tens of thousands of school children will keep showing up annually to fill their rooms or restaurants. For a while people were beginning to forget that tourists especially foreign tourist come to Kyoto the ancient capital to see traditional Japanese culture that can only be experienced here in Kyoto.

Goals

Our goal is to make Kyoto a better more esthetically beautiful destination as well as visitor friendly without losing its unique charm of the ancient capital. Kyoto is famous for it being one of the only places in Japan that still has traditional culture and crafts artisans alive a well. Our goal is to listen to both Japanese and non-Japanese visitors to Kyoto and get their true feelings both negative and positive. With the information gathered we plan to presents this to the city official and organization to help create an plan to keep as well as improve that charm this ancient city has had for more than 1200 years and hopefully many more centuries to come.
